Living in Tension (Words for 2025)

When I think back on this year, it will be uniquely marked by the tension between joy and pain.

Dreams and grief.

Beauty and mess.

I’d be lying if I said there aren’t things I’d change about this year, and yet, I find myself strangely content in that tension.

This year, I didn’t experience the Lord through prospering plans or the absence of adversity.

Instead, he met me in the tension of faith and frustration.

His voice was a low whisper.

His people were a gift.

And in the tension – somewhere I didn’t plan to be – I am all the more convinced that He is, as Jacob says, “the God who answers me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.” (Gen 35:3)
